The Museum as Halfway Station between Products and Souvenirs

Traditionally, the museum is a ceremonial burial place for objects. Once commodities in a scarcity market, objects here are turned into venerated items and reproduced for the souvenir market. This reproductive process is both tiresome and uncreative. In this presentation, I explore ways of turning the museum into a halfway house between products and souvenirs. On the basis of several case studies, I relate artistic practices to museum installations and link the inspiration for both to a new form of museum merchandise.
