Exhibition at Marres Maastricht
27 June – 6 September 2015
& Chambres d’Amis weekends (June and July)
The unspoken relationship with a loved one or a parent. A stranger’s furtive interest in a club. The touch of a cashier’s hand when she’s giving change. One can only communicate intimacy through examples. In the arts, its road is usually indirect: the letter, the gift or the living room all serve to symbolize the intimate spaces in which we share our feelings. In the exhibition Intimacy, Amie Dicke, Emily Jacir, Birthe Leemeijer, Keetje Mans, Nishiko, Petra Stavast, Sanne Vaassen and Roy Villevoye made this intimate space tangible.
Marres invited the artists to not only to create work for Marres, but also for six private houses in Maastricht. The homes were open for four weekends to visitors with a Marres entrance ticket.
Intimacy was a collaborative project with Maastricht Marketing and derived additional funding from the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds Limburg and the Limburg Participatiefonds.
