What We See & What We Know
Exhibition at Marres, Maastricht

With Katja Mater

Visual artist Katja Mater painstakingly explores ways to disclose possible realities. With pencil, paint and marker, she creates compositions on paper, objects and walls. During their making, she photographs every phase on a single negative. In other works, she tests the ways in which one can mix colors with film, translates one dimension into the next, and plays with the rules of perspective and split prisms. In all these works, layers of various time fragments are piled up, and turned around. The end result offers a world in which the relation between what we see and what we know is never settled.
