June 30 – July 9 2017
Initiator and curator
Between June 30 and July 9, Marres hosted the new program Marres Movements. Marres Movements was a series of performances created for and building on the current exhibition The Painted Bird: Dreams and Nightmares of Europe. The program added moving bodies and musical performances to the landscape of wall paintings and soundtrack, thus turning the latter into a massive stage set for performance, dance and music. During the first two weekends of July, performers and dancers entered the exhibition during opening hours with several improvised pieces and interventions and even a musical tour through Maastricht. During the evenings, the program featured more complete, scripted pieces. Among the performers were: visual artist Annika Kappner, choreographers and dancers Dario Tortorelli, Judit Ruiz Onandi and Hilde Elbers, and composers and musicians Hildrafn Helgasdottir and Christopher Tignor.
